Wat Tham Suea, commonly known as the Tiger Cave temple, is a buddhist temple set admist the Wat Tham forest. This area is a maze of natural caves and hosts a meditation centre as well.

The origin of the name is often cited to the tiger paw prints that can be seen in the cave. The summit to the temple is 2000 feet and consists of a steep stairway of 1300 steps. The climb is quite stenous and not for the faint-hearted. At the summit, stands a tall golden statue of Lord Buddha which is also visible from the bottom.

The panaromic view from the top is worth the climb to the top. For us, the climb to the top was more exciting that the view. The steps are filled with hoardes of monkeys, scampering away when you get close to them.

Getting There: From Krabi town, there are tons of tour operators who organize day trips to the temple. You can also rent a motorbike or a car for your ride. We went on a rainy day and the area was almost empty. But I have heard it can get quite crowded on good weather days.

What to wear: Dress conservatively while visiting these temples. Shoulders and knees should be covered and footwear needs to be removed before entering the temple premise.
